The Zermatt air is obviously good for Lionel Richie. "It's fantastic here with you", the singer cried to the public in the Festival marquee, "we live in South California and are not used to not being able to see the air". With his lungs filled with fresh, almost spring-like mountain air, the superstar was in top form on the second evening of the Festival and had his xxx fans stomping in the aisles – including Anni-Fried and Jon Lord, also former superstars with ABBA and Deep-Purple who clapped frenziedly.
All night long young and young-at-heart sang Richie's American-English songs with pleasant, colourful Scandinavian, French, Italian and "Walliserdiitsch" accents. In between times they swooned at every "Yeah" and "Yambo" and finally got out the lighters to get the right atmosphere for Richie's megahit, "Say you, say me".
The public can't yet sing along with the Soul-Pop-Act, the Bernese band Brothertunes in the Vernissage. That will soon change: Rich Fonjes' clear, intensive voice and Philly Hanses' soulful, funky arrangements went straight to your ears and heart. We want more of it! They paved the way very worthily for Seven. When he appeared on the scene, shortly before midnight, only few members of the public dared to get up on the floor. Seven, aka Jan Dettwyler, soon made it clear what he wanted: "Come a little bit closer, closer – closer please." And you could get so close to the star from Aargau, as to be able to touch him. Straightaway, with his first funky song he had his numerous fans present dancing in the hot, sweaty night – a night which went on for a long time on seven other stages of the Zermatt Unplugged Festival with a total of 9 artistes and their bands.
